smokin' hot ponies by hip-indeed smokin' hot ponies by hip-indeed
week 74 of :iconmlp-atg-alumni:. theme was to draw a fire pony.

well, i drew two -- COPYPASTE BODIES AHOy i mean um cough....................

i love both of these character designs and they're seen in the show far too sparingly. i feel that soarin and spitfire from their appearance in Best Night Ever could be major recurring characters and very entertaining (Spitfire's appearance in Hurricane Fluttershy was lacking at best), whereas fire-twi is an awesome concept sorely under-used these days. It seemed Lauren was building up to something that's been all but tossed out since she left the show; and there wasn't even so much as a fleeting suggestion that the dark magic from Crystal Empire is even gonna bring about a similar play of things, either. Oh well!

Anyway, have a couple of the hottest ponies I've ever drawn.

I really, *really* don't think this is worthy to be a wallpaper, but if you really want, I could make something that size for you out of the source.

Actually I think that you might be reading too much into a one-time sight gag.

C'mon, there are way, WAY, WAY weirder, sillier and less-interesting things in FiM that have become MASSIVE hits in the community, so much so that even the show creators themselves have adopted them; see Derpy Hooves, Vinyl Scratch (okay maybe a DJ pony with sweet shades and an awesome color scheme was roughly *as* interesting), etc.

Fire Twi was a really cool thing, visually excellent and a big nudge to the obvious insinuations all throughout Season 1 (mind you, the most Word of God-ish season) that Twilight A) has an incredible amount of magic power and B) has little control over it, so...

Basically it's weird to say someone's 'reading too much' into something this story-wise interesting and stylistically significant when 95% of things popular in this community -- and talked about by many, MANY people, constantly -- are LESS 'big of a deal'. In my opinion.

To me it's more like the ways Pinkie Pie "breaks physics," it doesn't mean she has magical powers or anything in continuity. Even calling her out on it (RD in Too Many Pinkie Pies) serves as a gag. It's rule of funny. Think Looney Tunes: Bugs Bunny can't actually fly, but for the sake of getting laugh he might walk on air after running out of ground.

Well, you talk like I don't know these things -- like I don't live and breathe these things seeing as how intensely interested in animation I am. But it's still fun to 'read into things' sometimes, and create theories, and stuff like that. Despite accepting everything in a good, fun cartoon like this one being of the potential to fall into the realm of 'rule of funny' or many other tropes, certain little things like fire twi are interesting to me beyond that -- and have, perhaps, the slightest twinge of seeming a tiny bit more potentially meaningful in some way.

Maybe not, but I like it anyway -- and I love that design way too much to forget about it. This is the 4th time I believe I've drawn it and it won't be the last. Again, if something like a barely-visible cross-eyed pony in the far background of a short scene became this much of a massive phenomenon that even the creators themselves adopted, a very interesting variation of the main character of the series -- even if only used once (kinda twice, if you count hotsauce twi, but that's much more obviously a visual gag and only the hair is edited), and most likely as nothing more than a little visual gag -- deserves at least a little bit of conversation and a little bit of fanart.

I'm not saying you shouldn't like it or think about it or draw it. I'm not in any position to tell someone how to enjoy things.
I'm just saying it's probably not as significant to the creators and production staff as you might think.

And I find that baffling to even bring up; I don't really MIND, since I know every bit it's true and it's not something I'd lose sleep over at all even if Lauren herself told me it's nothing, but it's just bizarre to me. If someone who's obviously a brony, and obviously knows this community, were going to comment on a piece of art pointing out that a person is probably reading too much into a specific miniscule character that they're drawing, well... there're about 100 billion derpy/vinyl/octavia pictures over that way. Heck, a ton I myself have drawn of Derpy anyway.

Also perhaps to note is that my descriptions tend to just be silly little musings that rarely mean a whole lot. I was just thinking of things to say.

Well there ARE a trillion things bronies read too much into. It's a fandom, that happens. When you have anybody watching a show you're going to get a thousand different interpretations with a thousand different weights put into a thousand different things that show up on the screen, and eventually some of that is going to congeal in a wiki somewhere. It just stuck out at me that you feel there's a concept that was actively, consciously being developed in the show which was later thrown out.
Shippers gonna ship, and Lyra-hearts-humans is more a joke than anything. Derpy's existence as anything other than a gag that was later embraced due to explosive popularity is all in our heads. That's all fanon, self-aware as such. We know we're making that up to fill in gaps, to entertain ourselves.

Yes. And I know that completely. And I'd wager to bet even the most stoic fanon-obsessors out there know it too, they just 'really wish' it weren't true. I guess it was just weird to me because you usually leave such nice comments, and here you say I'm 'reading too much into something' in this fandom, where people do that and everyone accepts that, yet I never see anyone really get onto each other about it, and there are certainly a trillion or so other places where people are doing it once than me drawing one of my favorite pony designs and whimsically thinking about how neat it'd be to see her more / for it to be 'something'.

This conversation's gone on way too long though, anyway.
